Teddies & Bodysuits

Originally designed in the 1910s as envelop chemise or camiknickers and has gone through a number of revivals. Revival periods include in 1940's and 1960's.  However, it wasn't until the 1980's and 1990's it took on the name of "teddy" or "bodysuit" when it started to be made of materials such as spandex. The sex appeal of the modern teddy has resulted in a number styles including traditional teddy, bareback teddy, fashion top teddy or teddiette.

The bodysuit, a one-piece form-fitting garment that covers the torso and crotch is the trademark attire of Playboy Bunnies and a progression from the leotard. Not to be confused with a one-piece swimsuit which although similar, the bodysuit features snaps, hooks or velcro at the crotch. In recent years the bodysuit has been revived as shaping underwear or lingerie.
